Medical examination of the internal conditions of the body usually uses expensive scanning equipment, such as X-rays. According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, scientists have developed a new type of camera that can see through the inside of the human body and is used in conjunction with medical equipment such as endoscopes for internal examination of the human body.

This camera works by detecting the light source placed on the tip of the endoscope inside the human body. The equipment used in the early experiments can capture a point-like light source through a 20 cm thick tissue layer under normal conditions. Although the light on the endoscope can penetrate the human body, it usually passes through tissues and organs or is reflected by them instead of penetrating straight. This makes it difficult to obtain a clear phase.

The new camera can detect photons. It is sensitive to light and can capture the weak light that penetrates the tissue. It can also record the time the light passes through the body, which means that this camera can detect the specific position of the endoscope.

Professor Kev Dhaliwal from the University of Edinburgh said that in addition to being used with endoscopes for medical examinations, this camera has many potential applications. He said: "In the medical industry, this ability to see the location of the instrument is very much needed, because we are increasingly emphasizing the reduction of additional injuries during the treatment.

This project is jointly led by the University of Edinburgh and Heriot Watt University. It is part of an interdisciplinary research collaboration. This project focuses on the research of new diagnostic and treatment technologies for lung diseases. Heriot Watt University Dr. Michael Tanner (Michael Tanner) believes that this camera can help clinicians learn about medical challenges, and use advanced technology that only remains in the physical laboratory to solve real-world problems.
