In enclosed utility tunnels, equipment mezzanines, and high risk chemical zones, manual inspections consistently face challenges such as limited space, hazardous environments, and poor nighttime visibility. As a mobile sensing platform, the compact inspection robot dog’s core competitiveness hinges on its integrated visual acquisition module and control transmission hub. The Kaimorui CM8810E mini zoom network camera module, paired with the CM2004H encoding control board, serves respectively as the “eyes” for perception and the “brain” for task coordination. With its lightweight design tailored to the robot dog’s body, this solution elevates mobile inspection from simple video recording to an intelligent operational system featuring autonomous object recognition and stable, controllable performance—fully meeting the demands of prolonged, autonomous patrols in complex environments.

I.Lightweight starlight vision, compatible with the robotic dog’s mobility and endurance logic.

Small robotic dogs are constrained by battery capacity and payload space, imposing strict limits on the size and power consumption of attached accessories. The CM8810E, a starlight grade mini zoom module, features a compact, lightweight design with a static power draw of just 3.7 W, minimizing drain on the robot dog’s limited battery life and extending its single charge inspection duration. Equipped with a Sony Starvis high sensitivity sensor, it delivers exceptional low light imaging—color at 0.01 Lux and monochrome at 0.001 Lux—paired with an ICR infrared filter that switches automatically. When the robot dog enters unlit underground equipment rooms or dimly lit pipelines, it can capture crisp, clear footage without additional lighting, eliminating visual blind spots in dark environments and supporting round the clock, uninterrupted monitoring operations.

II.Ten-times optical zoom with image stabilization delivers crisp, detailed images—perfect for capturing subtle details on the move.

When a robotic dog is moving, climbing slopes, or changing direction, the video feed is prone to jitter, making it difficult for standard camera modules to accurately capture subtle anomalies at long distances. The CM8810E features 10× optical zoom, with a focal length range from 4.8 mm to 48 mm, providing wide angle coverage of large areas and enabling long range focus on details such as distant meter readings, pipeline leak marks, and loose screws—key indicators of potential hazards. Equipped with built-in electronic image stabilization and fast autofocus, it delivers crisp, blur free footage even during bumpy, dynamic movements. With an 8 megapixel 4K resolution and H.265 high efficiency encoding, it supports simultaneous triple stream output, meeting the needs of real time transmission, local storage, and platform preview—all without straining bandwidth, ensuring smooth, stable inspection footage.

III.The smart algorithm is embedded in the core mechanism, giving the robotic dog perceptual and decision-making capabilities.

Going beyond simply “seeing the scene,” the CM8810E comes equipped with intelligent behavior analysis algorithms, supporting recognition of people, vehicles, and objects. It can deliver a range of detection capabilities, including tripwire intrusion, area entry, abandoned object alerts, and loitering warnings. When patrolling autonomously along a pre set route, the device’s core can distinguish between routine environmental changes and potential risk events; upon detecting an anomaly, it immediately triggers an alarm and simultaneously uploads video footage. The core is compatible with ONVIF and GB28181 protocols, enabling integration with existing security management platforms, while TF card local storage provides a fail safe backup, ensuring that patrol recordings are not lost even in offline conditions. This elevates small robotic dogs from mere mobile cameras to proactive, mobile sentinels capable of issuing early warnings.

IV.Stable central coordination and interlocking ensure continuous inspection even during power outages.

High-performance video processing requires a reliable control hub to handle commands, and the CM2004H 4K encoding control board serves as the system’s collaborative core. The control board connects to the CM8810E via an ultra thin coaxial cable, automatically adapting to multiple video signal formats—720P, 1080P, and 2160P—while offering plug and play operation with no complex configuration. It features dual RS485, RS232-TTL, and I/O control interfaces, ensuring compatibility with VISCA and PELCO protocols-P/D: A mainstream gimbal protocol that supports command passthrough. When the control station issues zoom, pan, and focus commands, the robot dog’s vision unit responds promptly. A key highlight is its power off memory feature: if an unexpected power outage occurs during a patrol and the system restarts, it automatically restores the pre power off settings and camera position, eliminating the need for recalibration. This prevents interruptions to inspection tasks and loss of waypoints, significantly enhancing the overall system reliability in unattended, automated inspection workflows.
