Working Principle
Optical zoom adjusts the relative positions of internal lens elements to alter the actual focal length of the lens, thereby magnifying or shrinking the captured scene. Since image enlargement is realized purely through physical optical principles without any electronic post-processing, there is no loss of image sharpness or quality during zooming.

- The total pixel count remains constant throughout the zoom process, so image resolution and sharpness never degrade.

II. Digital Zoom
Working Principle
Digital zoom simulates the zoom effect via the camera’s built-in image processing algorithms. It crops a partial area of pixels from the original image captured by the image sensor and stretches this cropped region to fill the entire frame. This process inevitably sacrifices image sharpness and details.
Visual Performance
- Though it can produce a magnified visual effect, image clarity and intricate details deteriorate noticeably after digital zoom.
- Higher magnification ratios lead to fewer effective pixels, resulting in reduced overall image resolution and sharpness.
Application Scenarios
Digital zoom generally serves as a supplementary function to optical zoom, offering extra magnification when the maximum optical zoom range is insufficient. Nevertheless, due to inherent image quality loss, it is not applicable to scenarios demanding high-standard imaging performance.
