As camera technology advances rapidly, Sony has leveraged its outstanding innovation to launch the FCB-ER9500. This 4K 60fps integrated camera module embodies Sony’s profound expertise in imaging technology and delivers unprecedented breakthroughs in multiple aspects. Especially in noise suppression, the FCB-ER9500 demonstrates powerful performance and broad application prospects.
Types of Camera Noise
Camera noise mainly falls into the following categories:
Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN)This type of noise usually appears under long exposure and low ISO settings. It manifests as certain pixels in the image with intensity far exceeding random ambient noise fluctuations, known as “hot pixels”.
Random NoiseRandom noise exists regardless of exposure duration and is most affected by ISO sensitivity. It is characterized by fluctuations in image brightness and color; its pattern changes even with identical exposure settings.
Striping NoiseThis noise is introduced when the camera reads data from the digital sensor, and it is highly dependent on the camera model and configuration.

Relationship between ISO and Noise
ISO sensitivity measures how sensitive a camera is to light. The higher the ISO value, the more sensitive the camera becomes to light, yet noise will also become more prominent.
Low ISO and Low Noise: In well-lit conditions, a low ISO setting yields relatively clean images because the signal level is much stronger than noise. However, if low ISO is used under insufficient lighting, underexposure and dark footage may occur.
High ISO and High Noise: When light is inadequate, raising ISO increases camera sensitivity to achieve proper exposure. Meanwhile, noise rises noticeably. Noise at high ISO typically appears as graininess across the frame, which can severely degrade image sharpness and details.
Balancing ISO and Noise: In practical shooting, operators need to balance ISO and noise according to lighting conditions and capture requirements. In low-light scenarios where clean imagery is required, auxiliary equipment such as tripods can be used to extend exposure time, enabling lower ISO for cleaner images. When fast capture is needed or lighting is extremely poor, ISO can be moderately increased to guarantee adequate exposure.
How Sony FCB-ER9500 Reduces Noise
High-Performance Image SensorThe Sony FCB-ER9500 adopts a STARVIS 2 CMOS sensor featuring high pixel density and low-noise characteristics, reducing noise generation at the source.
