In miniaturized payload projects such as airborne pods, micro gimbals, and portable inspection terminals, zoom camera modules have long been caught in a persistent dilemma: either the device remains compact but sacrifices high-resolution telephoto performance, or it achieves sharp long-distance imaging yet exceeds size specifications. Added to this are issues like poor low-light imaging, difficulties in integrating smart algorithms, and complex interface development—factors that have significantly slowed down the R&D progress of lightweight devices. The CM8805EM miniaturized integrated zoom module from Kaimorui, with an overall weight of just 78 grams and a compact footprint of 40×47×74.1mm, successfully packs together 5x optical zoom, 4K starlight-level imaging, embedded AI algorithms, and dual-channel video output into an incredibly small space. This perfectly matches the hardware requirements of the mini zoom market, striking a balance among body size, image quality, intelligent features, and integration efficiency, thereby making it the core imaging unit for lightweight visual equipment.

I. Compact optical lens group: Miniature zoom enables seamless transitions between distant and close-up shots.

For mini zoom devices, every inch of space in the body is precious, making it extremely challenging to simultaneously achieve both a wide-angle field of view and high-magnification close-up shots. The CM8805EM is equipped with a Sony 1/2.8-inch STARVIS image sensor, featuring an optimally redesigned optical path structure that enables a focal length range of 3.3–16.5mm within a compact body. This allows for 5x optical zoom plus 16x digital zoom, with the horizontal field of view narrowing from a wide-angle 103.1° down to a telephoto 19.1°. With just one single lens module, the device can cover both broad-area surveillance and detailed capture of specific targets, eliminating the need to stack multiple fixed-focal-length lenses. As a result, the overall size and hardware costs of miniature gimbals and drone payloads are significantly reduced. The zoom drive has been meticulously tuned—switching from wide angle to telephoto takes only 2 seconds throughout the entire process. Autofocus operates smoothly and continuously without any stuttering, ensuring that the image remains sharp and stable even during rapid motion tracking. Leveraging its exceptional starlight sensitivity, the device delivers color imaging at low light levels as low as 0.05 lux and black-and-white imaging down to 0.005 lux, enabling clear detection of human figures and vehicle outlines even in pitch-dark nighttime conditions. Additionally, the device incorporates advanced algorithms for wide dynamic range, strong-light suppression, and backlight compensation, effortlessly handling complex lighting scenarios such as backlit roads, intense factory lighting, and nighttime streetlights. Combined with temperature-drift compensation for focus and electronic image stabilization, the device maintains precise focus and stable images even in extreme temperature environments or under high-speed vibration conditions typical of airborne applications, guaranteeing superior image quality around the clock.

II. Onboard AI intelligent computing; the mini zoom device comes with built-in target detection capabilities.

The vast majority of miniature payload motherboards have limited computing power and cannot accommodate additional smart analysis modules. The CM8805EM, however, features a built-in, standalone deep-learning AI chip that integrates the entire suite of intelligent algorithms directly into the camera body itself—eliminating the need for external computing devices. Despite its compact, mini-zoom design, it can perform autonomous detection and coordinated tracking within the device’s tiny housing. The system supports common perimeter protection functions such as area intrusion detection, boundary-crossing alarms, human presence detection, and object left-behind alerts. Once an alarm is triggered, the lens automatically zooms in, locks onto the target, and magnifies details to capture clear, forensic-quality footage. The algorithm can precisely distinguish between humans and vehicles, and it can also identify violations such as workers smoking, leaving their posts, or making phone calls. This makes it ideal for applications including field-mounted aerial patrols, vehicle-mounted mobile surveillance, and small-scale inspection robots for industrial parks. The device continuously monitors for faults such as screen occlusions, scene changes, network disconnections, and storage anomalies. Combined with its ability to switch seamlessly between wide-angle and telephoto modes, it offers both broad-area coverage and long-range, high-resolution targeting—effectively addressing the common shortcoming of small-scale surveillance devices that can only provide a general overview but fail to capture fine details. By leveraging its mini-zoom hardware, the CM8805EM builds a complete, intelligent security system from the ground up.

III. Dual-stream, dual-channel output significantly reduces the development complexity of mini-device integration.

Many miniaturized zoom projects often encounter issues such as interface mismatches, protocol incompatibilities, and excessive bandwidth consumption. The CM8805EM features both a network port and MIPI dual-channel video output, making it suitable for two types of micro payload development solutions: The MIPI interface delivers an uncompressed raw video stream at 2688×1520 resolution at 30 fps, which can be directly connected to an embedded development board; the 100-Mbps network port outputs a network stream up to 4K resolution at 30 fps, using the highly efficient H.265 compression format to save bandwidth and storage space. Moreover, the primary and secondary streams can be configured separately to optimize preview and recording quality. The camera module is compatible with mainstream pan-tilt control protocols such as VISCA and PELCO, allowing you to control the zoom function simply by connecting it to a pan-tilt head. Additionally, the device provides open GB28181, ONVIF, and CGI interfaces, enabling direct integration into government security and campus management platforms without the need for further custom development.

IV. Industrial-grade hardware protection, suitable for mini-zoom operations in all outdoor scenarios.

Micro payloads are mostly deployed in outdoor vehicle-mounted applications, low-altitude drone inspections, and field-based open-air terminals. The significant temperature differences between day and night, humid moisture, and electromagnetic interference can all affect the stability of the core mechanism. The CM8805EM boasts stringent industrial environmental specifications: its operating temperature range is from -30℃ to +60℃, its storage temperature can reach from -40℃ to +70℃, and it can withstand air humidity levels between 20% and 80% without condensation. Whether facing the severe cold of northern regions or the high temperatures and humidity of southern regions, its zoom imaging performance remains fully reliable and free of malfunctions. The circuitry incorporates lightning protection and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection: the network port features common-mode surge protection up to 4kV and contact ESD protection up to 1kV, effectively shielding against electromagnetic interference and lightning strikes in outdoor environments. It supports local TF card storage up to 1TB and also supports... FTP and NAS cloud backups, along with zoom-enabled snapshot capture—dual preservation of forensic evidence.
